SEN Football Festival with the Aston Villa Foundation

We recently had the pleasure of working alongside the Aston Villa Foundation, the charity behind professional football club Aston Villa to organise, not one but two special needs football festivals.

As a supply teaching agency, we have the privilege of supporting many special needs schools with their staffing and we wanted to find a way to give back to those schools that we work alongside.  Ultimately, we know that children with disabilities benefit from playing football just like any other. Having worked with the Aston Villa Foundation in the past, we knew that they shared our values and were excited to partner with them again.

The first of the festivals was aimed at Key Stage 2 children the second was aimed at Key Stage 3 students. The football festival offered students of different backgrounds and abilities the opportunity to play a few friendly game of football against other local schools.

Every team that competed was present with a medal and our two best teams, Beaufort Special School and the Marywood Centre headed back to school with trophies in tow.

Feedback from the schools that attended with teachers commenting:

“The kids really enjoyed the opportunity as it’s something they haven't experienced before”.

-Sutton School

“The children enjoyed the tournament and it was well run and a friendly atmosphere”

- Marywood Centre

We’re so proud of our SEN consultant, Kirsty, and Marketing Manager, Kelly, who did an amazing job putting this altogether and understanding the value that sports can have on young people - self-esteem, sense of belonging and accomplishment that kids receive from being involved in sports benefits all kids.

If your school would like to get involved in any of our future special needs football events, then please get in touch.
