Our Coventry Education Recruitment Consultant, has been spending a lot of time in Coventry recently, registering teachers and teaching assistants and meeting with schools. During their downtime, he’s been spending some time exploring the lovely city of Coventry and finding out what it has to offer. What they discovered are some really fantastic places that would be perfect for school trips or even a fun family day out.
Belgrade Theatre
The Belgrade Theatre is one of the largest producing theatres in the UK. With a diverse and varied line-up of shows, the theatre aims to enrich people’s lives through the power of music, drama and dance by playing host to everything from home-produced plays to West End musicals.
Some of the upcoming theatre productions include Six (which sees the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales), Billionaire Boy (David Walliam’s best-selling children’s book brought to life) as well as classics like Blood Brothers. With this said, the Belgrade Theatre is suitable for all age groups and a fantastic location to learn not only about drama but also history and English too!
Coventry Transport Museum
Located in the heart of Coventry’s city centre, you will find the Coventry Transport Museum. Showcasing a variety of transport throughout the ages, the museum is a great place for students of all ages to learn more outside of the classroom. In fact, the museum has put together learning packages for both primary and secondary schools, in addition to running school holiday programmes.
Plus this is the only place where you can test drive world’s fastest car (a hair-raising 763 mph) via the museum’s 4D simulator and what kid (or adult) doesn’t want to try that?
St. Mary’s Guildhall
Discover 700 years of history when you and your school visit St Mary’s Guildhall. Located next door to Coventry Cathedral, not only is it easy to find, but it also offers schools the opportunity to combine a visit here with other locations. Since 1342, the guildhall has played host to kings and queens, acted as a prison for Mary Queen of Scots and a theatre for Shakespeare.
The main attraction here is its impressive Great Hall, where you can try on medieval amour, marvel at beautiful stained glass, carved angels and one of the rarest and most important tapestries in the country. A visit here would be perfect for students studying history, English, art, geography and even mathematics! To help you plan your trip, St Mary’s have put together a guide.
Herbert Art Gallery and Museum
If you are looking to delve into Coventry’s history and engage with art and culture, then The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is the perfect place. It’s also the perfect place for families. So perfect, it won the Guardian’s Family Friendly Award!
Unlike other museums, it’s not filled with dinosaur bones or Egyptian mummies, instead, you can find hopscotch items and stuffed toys. Moreover, the museum has an impressive collection of modern art and Old Masters and also runs history, literacy and art and creative practice workshops to enable students and schools to make the most of their time there.
The Wave
Okay, so this one isn’t strictly educational but we thought it would make a fun end of year addition to any Activity/Enrichment/Fun Week or a fun weekend with the family after a long week of teaching…
The Wave is Coventry’s newest indoor waterpark, boasting six high-octane slides, a wave pool and a lazy river! This makes it the perfect place to kick back and have fun. Remember it is important that there is a balance between work and play, plus a trip to somewhere as cool as this is guaranteed to earn you cool teacher status!
We hope that you’ve found this info helpful and that you’ll consider taking your student to one of the above places in Coventry or even your own children. In the meantime, if you are looking for a supply teaching job or a job within a school (administrator, caretaker, exam invigilator), then send your CV to us today. Alternatively, if you would like more information, get in touch.
