The Benefits of Short Term Supply as an ECT

As an Early Careers Teacher (ECT), short term supply work is the perfect way to gain experience in the classroom whilst having the support you need to start your teaching career from your recruitment agency. You can develop new skills, enhance your cv and get access to essential training ready for your next career move.

There are so many benefits of working in supply as a newly qualified teacher so we asked a few of our ECTs why they chose supply work.

Experience

For an ECT experience is key and supply work is the perfect way to gain it. Short term supply work allows you to work in a multitude of different schools and year groups. So not only are you gaining familiarity with different management styles and school cultures but you can also take this time to figure out what year group is the perfect fit for you meaning you will be able to make the right choice when you decide to settle into a permanent role.

Flexibility

When working as a supply you do not need to work every day of the week. You can choose when you work! This means you can fit your work around your lifestyle and who wouldn’t want that? You can take control of your own work-life balance. Also, if you haven’t completed your ECT year, supply work can fit nicely around your studies.

An easier transition

Once you begin working in supply work you are essentially networking whilst gaining experience. You will meet so many great individuals within the education sector and will know what to expect when you do transition to a permanent role. Who knows? You might get the chance of a permanent role at one of the schools you have done supply work for.

If we have piqued your interest and you want to start your teaching career with supply work have a look at our latest roles or submit your CV! You can find more tips for new teachers here.
