Are you a supply teacher or teaching assistant looking for some help and advice? If so, you are in the right place. Our blogs offer tips and tricks on everything from classroom management to interview tips and support, along with day in the life case studies from real supply teachers, ECTs and cover supervisors. They also give you an insight into what working for Smile is like, the ways which we support local communities and charities and the training and events that we offer.

Our team have been working from home for the past week now and in that time we have managed to come up with some tips to improve your wellbeing and to stop you from getting cabin fever during the school closures.
Long walks with good music - recommended by Louise, our Compliance Team Leader
It’s good to have a change of scenery. Get out of the house while you can but remember to respect social distancing rules.
What good music is, depends on who you are talking to we’ve had every suggestion you can think of from heavy metal to Bob Marley and trance!
Lists - recommended by Claire, one of our secondary consultants
To stop you becoming a couch potato and help you stay productive during the day, try doing things Mrs Hinch style by creating ‘to do’ lists. Not only will these help give you a sense of purpose but you’ll also feel a great sense of achievement when you tick something off too!
Exercising - recommended by Katy, Managing Director
Just because you are at home doesn’t mean that you should stop exercising. Lots of our team are taking part in Joe Wicks’ PE classes to ensure that the day gets off to a good start.
Treat yourself - recommended by Conor, our Senior Compliance Administrator
A little bit of chocolate didn’t hurt anyone right? Sometimes we all just need a little pick me up.
Get up and get dressed - recommended by Leah, our Support Services Consultant
Start the day off on the right foot by getting dressed, no matter how tempting it might be to stay in your pyjamas. You will definitely feel better for it. Trust us!
Take it slow - recommended by Patrick, one of our primary consultants
We have a lot of time on our hands so don’t rush. Whether you’re simply brushing your teeth or reading a blog make sure to fully immerse yourself in that task.
Sing like no one is listening - recommended by Kelly, our Marketing and Social Media Executive
Turn up your favourite song(s) and belt them out like no one can hear you. You will feel 100% better and who knows you could be the start of a viral video, like those in Italy and Spain.
Spend as much time outside as possible - recommended by Mary, one of our primary consultants
It’s spring! So, get out in the garden. Have lunch al fresco or sit down for a picnic with the kids or even mow the lawn. You don’t need to go far to enjoy the sunshine.
Keep yourself occupied - recommended by Olivia, Operations Manager
There is no worse feeling than feeling bored. This is a great time to sort out your wardrobe, clear out the garage, catch up on that Netflix series everyone’s been talking about or play some board games.
Stay social - recommended by Kash, one of our primary consultants
You might not be able to go out to meet friends and family but there are loads of great apps that you can use to stay connected. This is a time when social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp can really be put to great use, especially those with a video call function.
Don’t forget, if you are feeling lonely or just simply want a chat, we are still and always will be at the other end of the phone. You can get in touch by calling us on 0121 392 6570 or contacting your consultant directly.
