Are you a supply teacher or teaching assistant looking for some help and advice? If so, you are in the right place. Our blogs offer tips and tricks on everything from classroom management to interview tips and support, along with day in the life case studies from real supply teachers, ECTs and cover supervisors. They also give you an insight into what working for Smile is like, the ways which we support local communities and charities and the training and events that we offer.

Recruitment can be a stressful job that is made up of highs and lows. As a business, we recognise this and do our very best to help our team combat and cope with the challenges that working in the recruitment industry brings. Most recently we signed the MHIR Awareness to Action Pledge to help change the way mental health is viewed in the workplace.
Having worked in the education sector for over 12 years, we are also very aware of the pressure that teaching professionals are under.
We asked our team to share their suggestions on coping with and reducing stress. Hopefully, their answers will be of use to not just those working in recruitment but also to those in education.
Connect with nature
Going outside for a walk is a great way to remind yourself that the world is so much bigger than your work bubble.
Disconnect from social media
A controversial one here! However, removing yourself from social media can improve your well-being. Our MD, Katy, did this a while ago and has never looked back!
Socialising
Taking some time out to have fun with friends and family is a great way to relax and switch off.
Get sporty
Sport often provides us with a great outlet to channel our stress into. Adam, our talent acquisition manager, opts for golf, snowboarding or longboarding (other sports are also available).
Treat yourself
Some self-care can do you the world of good. Take some time out for yourself. That might look like having a long soak in the bath, or applying a face mask or even just going to bed early to watch some trash TV!
Take a break
Sometimes a short break is all we need (and have time for in a busy working day). Stepping away from your computer screen even if it’s just to make a drink or put a wash on (for those lucky enough to work from home!) can be enough to keep the stress at bay.
Break it down
To-do lists are a great way of keeping your workload manageable. Vicky, who is part of our resourcing team, swears by them as do many others. Remember, you are only human and can only do so much.
Do you have any stress beating tips? If so, we’d love to hear about them in the comments below. If you are a teacher, don't forget to take a look at our guest blogs from Suneta Bagri and Jessica Joan which offer tips on handling the pressure of teaching and dealing with anxiety.
