We can’t wait for Halloween and we are sure your students can’t contain their excitement either, after all, who wouldn’t be excited to dress up and get free sweets?
Seeing your students get excited about the upcoming celebrations is one of the best parts of teaching but it can be distracting when it comes to your little ones learning. We asked a few of our teachers and they have suggested a few ways you can keep learning alive during Halloween.
It’s easy to use Halloween-themed objects in your counting classes but if you really want to get your student's attention why not get creative? Twinkl has tons of Halloween-themed maths resources from colour by calculation worksheets to coordinate activity work packs that are free to download! These activities are fun and educational, your students won’t even realise they’re learning.
Science is the perfect subject to celebrate Halloween after all, it is the spookiest. Get your students to name the bones on a skeleton, make slime or even wow your students with a pumpkin volcano! The Skeleton Dance song is the perfect way to get the class moving, have them point to the bones they’re singing about!
Scary stories are part of the Halloween tradition so why not honour this by reading some spooky stories to your kids? Little Boo Saves The Halloween is perfect for little kids that love creepy but cute creatures and funny adventures. For older children in your schools, the author of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has a Halloween book full of spooky stories that we are sure they will love.
Get your class in the Halloween spirit by making decorations for your classroom! Paper spiders and webs for the darkest corners of your classroom are a perfect place to start, plus they’re cheap to make, all you need is paper, scissors and glue! A Halloween countdown designed by your class can also help to get them excited for Halloween each day!
We hope these ideas have helped you keep learning alive this month whilst also encouraging creativity and excitement in your students.
