Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, who have recently partnered with Smile Education to add value to their recruitment process, have welcomed their first student cohort to the new Shireland CBSO Academy.
The new school, which began development in 2019, is based in West Bromwich, and is the first free, non-selective state school in Britain to be established in partnership with a professional orchestra.
The school has teamed up with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) to offer students from Sandwell the opportunity to pursue musical excellence alongside an exceptional standard of education and a focus on student wellbeing.
This marks another exciting development at the Trust, who have been working tirelessly to improve educational outcomes across the Midlands and address the much-publicised decline in creative arts at schools nationwide.
Students at the Academy will benefit from universal access to music tuition and performance opportunities, enabling every student to learn a musical instrument or take vocal lessons and receive expert guidance from the CBSO’s professional musicians.
Sir Mark Grundy, CEO at Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, said: “The opening of Shireland CBSO Academy is a proud moment for our Trust, community and students.
The Arts enrich our young people’s lives in so many ways and it is an honour to be able to offer a school with a unique partnership between our Trust, the CBSO and Sandwell Local Authority which nurtures our students’ musical abilities. We are very privileged to be part of this journey and instil a love of arts and creativity that students can carry with them for a lifetime, with the potential to reach the very top of Britain’s outstanding Arts sector.”
