Say hello to Ferida who completed our Introduction to Teaching Assistant Course back in September 2021. Since completing the course, she has gone on to work in various schools, in various roles, and received amazing feedback. We asked her a few questions about the course, take a look at her answers below.
After losing my job, I decided to take some time out and spend more time with my young son. As my son has gotten older and more independent, I’ve gained more free time and I wanted to find something to fill it.
I had always wanted to work in a school so, finding this course felt like a dream come true. I never in a million years thought that I could access this kind of career through a course like this but I can assure you it’s possible!
I learnt lots from Introduction to Teaching Assistant course. The safeguarding portion of the course was particularly eye-opening - I wish I had known these things before! My biggest takeaway though was that in my role as a TA I can really make a difference and help a child learn something new which is a really beautiful thing.
Since completing the course, passing my safeguarding checks and undertaking a voluntary day within a school, I have worked in a number of different roles in primary and secondary schools. Some of the roles that I have taken on include a classroom TA, SEN teaching assistant and covid-testing assistant.
I have enjoyed each and every role that I have undertaken. My favourite part is getting to know the students. Young people are amazing!

Undertaking the TA course with SCCB has opened the doors for me to work as a TA at a primary school. Before I took this course, I never thought I could work as a TA. This opportunity has given me a better hope for the future.
