The team at Smile Education is expanding, and with so many different roles within the recruitment sector, we thought we’d shine a light on what you can expect when you become a part of APSCo's Recruitment Company of the Year (hint - that’s us!).
We asked our Compliance Manager Louise to tell us more about what a typical day at Smile Education looks like for her, as well as how she fits work around her life and hobbies.
I’m Louise, the Compliance Manager and Designated Safeguarding Officer. My role is to ensure that Smile Education maintain a high standard safeguarding practice, adhering to statutory guidance and government legislation.
I create models for internal compliance processes whilst simultaneously managing the largest team in the business – The Compliance Champions! Outside of work I am a qualified Meditation Practitioner and enjoy the benefits that come from this which enable a more wholesome and grounded sense of wellbeing.
First things first – I say “thank you!” followed by an affirmation of gratitude. I use a really cute mobile app which gives you new affirmations when you wake up, each day, so when my alarm goes off in the morning, this is the first thing I see!
Expressing gratitude for the wonderful things you have in your life can really create a positive perspective for the rest of your day. If I am working from home, I will squeeze in a 15-20 minute meditation and have a fruit smoothie to start my day. If I am working from the office, I will grab a chai latte on the way in. #TreatYoself
During lunch I usually watch Judge Judy – Yes, Judge Judy (love her!) and relax before getting stuck back into work.
Afternoons are notoriously manic for the compliance champions – especially on a Friday. It’s all systems go and I am usually working with my team to prepare numerous candidates for their first assignments.
My team and I tend to catch up in a virtual office space on Teams during the days we work from home, so we can always work in synergy and so none of us ever feel isolated or lonely!
During the evenings I usually kick back with my fiancé and stepdaughter. We try to mix it up during the week to avoid becoming couch potatoes! From walks, to board games, to just spending time with each other – we do a lot.
When I’m not with my family I will binge whatever TV show is my flavour of the month. This month, I have watched Queen Charlotte on Netflix and I thoroughly enjoyed it – I definitely didn’t cry at the ending. Did you? (I did really cry, but don’t tell anyone!)
We’re passionate about improving the education and wellbeing of children and young people across the Midlands and Greater Manchester, and we have fun doing it! If you are a driven, enthusiastic individual, we have a rewarding environment waiting for you.
